Finding the right vocal coach for your needs and personality can be a daunting task. However, it is of the greatest importance to find someone that is not only qualified, but qualified to address your needs. Chris Lieck is one of the most successful Music Business Veterans in Texas history.  To make sure your voice coach is qualified and can deliver what you need, here are some tips to consider.

1. Experience

Does the coach have work experience comparable to yours? It is estimated that about 95% of self-proclaimed vocal coaches actually have little-to-no experience at singing or teaching singing and have only been trained in vocal coaching. Such individuals may have a number of suggestions that seem wise on the surface, but have few practical suggestions on how to help you achieve your professional goals.

2. Credentials

Chris Lieck is one of the most respected Music Business Professionals in not only Texas but in the country. Visit www.chrislieck.com to read his full bio. Chris, his labels, and especially his Artists have won countless awards from BMI, to TTMA, to Grammy Nominations and Grammy awards. He is a studio owner of 25 years both in Hollywood and San Antonio and these studios have recorded thousands of singers over the past 25 years, owns two record labels. Put simply he develops talent. At Tejas Records he approached the business with signing the best singers in the market and the result was a success that few have matched in Texas. He knows how to find and develop talent. "I don't love developing. I get more satisfaction of finding a singer (which I did a few months back) that has raw talent but no real technique and seeing him or her start singing like a National Recording Artist. That is so much more satisfying as it proves that the studio is where you learn to sing. It is the like hearing your voice through a microscope and that allows the student to improve quickly and with focus. Most of my advanced students are starting to songwrite and they have all the tools at their hands." Chris Lieck

3. Credibility

Select someone that has a solid and quality reputation in the industry. Your coach should be active and visible in the industry, publishing books and articles in major media, as well as presenting new ideas at professional conferences. It is crucial to validate the person's standing. Select a coach for whom coaching was a first career choice, not someone who may have failed in another role and found coaching as a default role to which he or she may not be 100% committed.

4. Come Listen

We always recommend that our student freely talk to you about what we do and their results. Our students rarely quit or stop coming to lessons. If fact in for the last two years not one student has stopped lessons.

5. Methods

We have the most effective method of teaching voice than any one else. We offer a computer analysis of the voice if the student wishes that allows us a huge advantage when setting up a plan for each student. We teach every single student differently unlike all other teachers. With over 20 years recording vocalist the staff along with Chris is able to recognize in minutes the problems and address the most concerning ones immediately. We try to get the students to immediately notice their mistakes and work on correction and not repeating those mistakes on their very next lesson. We then move to tone, pitch and range along with breathing and most importantly MENTALITY. Mentality is crucial to success. If you lack the mental attachment to the physical requirements to sing, you will never sing consistently. That is the most important part of singing, consistently.

6. Goals

Any decent vocal coach should be able to help you find and establish your professional goals. However, before meeting with anyone, take some time to determine your own goals and potential milestones. When you come for your consultation inquire as to when you can expect to see results, and what those results might look like. Have realistic goals. If a student comes to us and has a goal of winning American Idol but has limited ability we tell them immediately the honest truth and will not take that student into lessons if their goals are unrealistic. That is why we are known as the most honest facility in Texas.

7. Consultation

Your first meeting is vital in establishing the level of your potential and for Chris to get an idea of what exactly you need to improve. This meeting will also establish if you are compatible (or not) with this form of teaching. Don't forget: this an individual with whom you are learning a life long talent that you or your child will use for the rest of their lives. Make sure you make the most of the first session, but also bear in mind that the first consultation should be free. Beware of anyone who charges for an initial consultation.

8. Guarantee

While there are many factors in securing the right teacher. You are paying for a service and getting better is up to your work ethic and our teaching. We Guarantee you will improve if you practice the exact techniques we provide. If you don't we will not continue to teach a student that is not progressing. We won't take your money and continue to teach you. Since there are waiting lists at all times it is in both parties interest to part ways if you are not practicing. This guarantees both the teacher and the student results.

9. Fees

It is our belief you get what you pay for. SA VOICE is about 15% more expensive than standard ineffective voice lessons. Our lessons are priced way below the service we provide but it is our belief that once you have learned at the COMIA building and Chris Lieck Studios, price will not be an issue as your results will be worth the $10 or $15 more you pay per lesson.
